Want to collect but don't know where to start?

Many of us already have the start of a collection but don't realise it.

Locked away up in your parents or your own loft you will probably find boxes stacked high that have long been forgotten, until now.  Take a look in the boxes and you will most likely find all those toys that used to fill you with wonder and have you running around the living room re-enacting scenes from your favourite movies or childhood cartoons.  These items are always one of the most popular ways of starting a collection, and you can even add to them by buying from ebay or having a good look around online, for relatively cheap prices. Obviously the prices will vary depending on whether you want to buy them in original packaging, or as loose items.  As an example, I will use Masters Of the Universe. This cartoon was aired in the early 1980's and was the foundation from which all of my collections spawned from.  I was lucky enough to have been bought alot of them as a kid, so as an adult I didn't have to buy much, but after this, I then turned my eyes to others, and over the years has turned into a collection ranging from Star Wars, Marvel, DC Comics & Thundercats to name but a few.

Another easy way for you to start collecting is to look out for publications that release figures on a regular basis.  One example of a company who do this are Eaglemoss Publications.  These are a fantastic company who release several ranges every year, and my favourites have been the Lord of The Rings Chess Sets, Marvel & DC Heroes handpainted figurines.  Each issue comes with an illustrated magazine with all of the information you need about the figure that comes with it, and aswel as being filled to the brim with facts, artwork from the comics that they originated from is also included. These are usually moderately priced between £7.99 - £11.99 an issue, but the first issue is always priced around £1.99, so you can always see if you like it before you commit to the full subsription.  However, always read the small print, becasue aswel as releasing the standard issues, 'Special Edition' items will also be release for a slightly dearer price, but you can opt out of this when you subsribe, and you can also cancel your subsciption when you feel like you have enough from that range, but for what will work out to be approx. £20 per month, this is a great way to start.

It might sound silly, but your local car boot sale is also a good place to pick up used items at great prices, but always look at the condition, accessories that comes with it before you start to haggle prices.

Popular culture has seen an incredible rise in popularity over the last 10-20 years, and shows no signs of slowing down, which is more evident with the continuous release of Comic Book Movies.  These arent the only source of popular items though, another large market to look at is Science Ficiton.  Movies like Terminator, Alien, Predator & Star Wars have a seemingly never ending stream of collectibles on offer, but dont let that stop you, you're in no rush, take your time and your collection will grow.

If you want to take a look at our members page, this will show you all of the various items that people have in their collection, and it would be great to see your collection on there some day.

So, to sum up, to start your collection, look to your past first and, if possible, build on it, or simply take a look around and odds are something will catch your eye, and bingo, you will have the start of your collection.
